President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reaffirmed his administration’s steadfast commitment to restoring peace, security, and stability across South Sudan, emphasizing dialogue and cooperation with opposition groups as the country approaches a critical period of governance and electoral processes.

President Kiir made the remarks during a high-level meeting with the leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO), led by its newly recognized Interim Chairman, Ambassador Stephen Par Kuol, on Tuesday in Juba.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Ambassador Par highlighted that discussions centered on key national issues, including the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement, governance reforms, the constitutional-making process, and preparations for the upcoming elections. He described the meeting as “constructive and focused on building consensus for the future of South Sudan.”

The recognition of Ambassador Par Kuol as SPLM-IO’s interim chairman marks a significant step in strengthening political dialogue and cooperation between the government and opposition groups.

President Kiir stressed that the government remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining peace and stability, particularly during the sensitive period leading to elections, while ensuring that all citizens enjoy security and the opportunity to participate fully in the nation’s democratic processes.

For many South Sudanese, the meeting serves as a hopeful signal of renewed commitment to dialogue and unity, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to solidify peace and foster national reconciliation.
