A police officer attached to the United Nations police was assaulted on Sunday in Torit over allegations of adultery.
The Eastern Equatoria State Police Spokesperson, Major Justin Kleopas Takuru, said the incident occurred in Moruari residential area after the suspect was allegedly found with another man’s wife.
Major Justin Kleopas Takuru confirmed that the victim sustained serious injuries, including broken teeth and urinary complications, and was later referred to Juba for advanced medical treatment.
According to police reports, the husband alerted neighbors, who pursued and assaulted the UN officer as he attempted to flee.
The police spokesperson called on couples to remain faithful in marriage and on community members to resolve disputes through legal channels rather than violence.
Major Takuru urged the public to look out for one another and help prevent such incidents by responding calmly and reporting offenses to the authorities.
He emphasized that acts of mob justice are punishable by law and encouraged citizens always to follow lawful procedures when addressing grievances.
