The Chief Administrator of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA), Gola Boyoi Gola, has issued an urgent appeal for humanitarian assistance as widespread flooding continues to displace thousands of families and disrupt essential services.

Speaking in Juba on Thursday during a briefing with President Salva Kiir, Gola described the situation in GPAA as a worsening humanitarian crisis, with floodwaters inundating communities, destroying homes, and cutting off access to basic necessities.

“The flooding has severely affected the livelihoods of our people,” Gola said. “Immediate intervention is needed to prevent further suffering and to support the displaced populations.”

In response, President Kiir directed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs to swiftly mobilize and coordinate emergency relief operations for those affected in the region.

Beyond the immediate crisis, Gola also highlighted the importance of ongoing local peacebuilding efforts. He noted that GPAA is actively working to engage youth in peace initiatives to maintain internal stability and promote harmony with neighboring communities.

“Sustained dialogue is key to reducing intercommunal tensions and fostering peaceful coexistence,” he added.

The Chief Administrator further raised alarm over deteriorating infrastructure, particularly the closure of the vital Juba–Pibor road. He warned that the poor road conditions are hampering the delivery of humanitarian aid and essential goods, exacerbating the impact of the floods in an already vulnerable area.

President Kiir acknowledged the challenges and reiterated his administration’s commitment to rehabilitating critical infrastructure in Greater Pibor, recognizing its importance in ensuring sustained access to services and economic stability.
