The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has awarded medals to 191 peacekeepers from the Bangladeshi Force Marine Unit, together with personnel from ten other nations, in recognition of their dedicated service in the country.

The peacekeepers were commended for their vital role in safeguarding rivers and waterways, ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian assistance, protecting civilians, and supporting national counterparts in strengthening sustainable capacities within local communities.

Commander of the Bangladeshi Contingent Captain (Colonel) Gazi Golam Morshed said the recognition underscores the essential contribution of peacekeepers to fostering peace and stability in South Sudan, particularly through maintaining secure access to vital water routes that sustain both humanitarian operations and local livelihoods.

“These medals symbolize the United Nations’ deep appreciation for their committed service to keeping the communities we serve safe and building hope for a better, more peaceful future,” said Captain (Colonel) Gazi Golam Morshed.
