Residents of Haisome area in Kudo Payam, Torit County of Eastern Equatoria State, are facing a shortage of clean drinking water after most of their boreholes broke down in June this year.

Speaking to Radio Emmanuel 89FM on Tuesday, area Chief Paul Lomoroho said the community now depends on seasonal rivers and streams for domestic use, a situation he fears could expose them to waterborne diseases such as diarrhea and typhoid.

“The area has faced a shortage of clean drinking water since June, with only one borehole serving a large population. Out of four boreholes, three are broken and only one is functioning. The spoiled ones need urgent repair to save the community from waterborne diseases,” Chief Lomoroho explained.

He appealed to the government and development partners to repair the broken boreholes and restore access to safe drinking water for the community.
