AU Peace and Security Council Delegation Arrives in South Sudan for Peace Talks

Juba, August 11, 2025 – An African Union (AU) delegation arrived in Juba on Sunday to engage in high-level discussions with South Sudanese officials on the country’s ongoing peace process. The visit comes amid rising political and security concerns surrounding the 2018 peace agreement.

The delegation, sent by the AU Peace and Security Council, was welcomed by Ambassador Kureng Pac, Director General for Multilateral Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The three-day visit underscores the African Union’s continued commitment to fostering stability, peacebuilding, and development in South Sudan. The mission includes a series of consultations with senior government officials as part of the AU’s efforts to reinforce the implementation of the peace deal.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this visit reflects strong collaboration between the AU and South Sudan in promoting peace, security, and regional development.

During the visit, South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Monday Semaya K. Kumba, also hosted H.E. Malik Agar, Deputy Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council. The Sudanese delegation is expected to hold separate talks with senior South Sudanese officials aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and dialogue between the two countries.
