The Eastern Equatoria State Government has deployed security personnel to the collapsed Lolere Bridge on the Torit–Liria–Juba highway to protect stranded traders and their goods.

Governor Louis Lobong Lojore, who visited the site on Monday, reassured the public of the government’s commitment to restoring the vital transport link, urging patience as both state and national authorities work on a solution.

“We have provided security for the drivers and the people staying here so that nothing happens to them,” said Governor Lobong. “I call upon the people of Eastern Equatoria to be patient and give us time to work with the national government.”

The Lolere Bridge is a key route connecting Torit to the capital, Juba. Its collapse has disrupted the flow of goods and passengers, leaving many stranded.

Governor Lobong also appealed to public transport operators to cooperate in easing the movement of passengers across the damaged section.

“I am appealing to road users, particularly bus drivers, to temporarily coordinate drop-off and pick-up points,” he said. “Buses from Torit should leave passengers at the bridge, and those from Juba should pick them up on the other side until a solution is found.”

The collapse of the bridge followed heavy rainfall last week, cutting off a critical supply route and raising concerns over food and fuel shortages if not promptly addressed.
