As South Sudan prepares to celebrate its 14th Independence Day on Wednesday, the Central Equatoria State Women’s Union has called on citizens to uphold peace, unity, and responsibility during the festivities.
Chairperson of the Union, Mrs. Cicilia Laku Wani, emphasized the vital role of women in fostering peace and harmony within families and communities.
“Peace and unity are essential if we are to build the future we desire for our children. As women, we must champion these values in our homes, communities, and institutions,” said Mrs. Laku.
Also speaking at the event, Kolong Florence Martine Wani, a representative of Yei County in the Women’s Union, urged young people to celebrate responsibly. She particularly warned motorists and boda-boda riders to prioritize road safety.
“We want everyone to return home safely after the celebrations. Let’s avoid reckless behavior and think of our loved ones,” she said.
Wani also appealed to parents to closely monitor their children during the national holiday to ensure their safety.
The Union called for a collective commitment to peacebuilding and national development, emphasizing that unity and hard work are crucial for shaping South Sudan’s future.
South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in 2011 and marks its national day annually on July 9.
