Help a Child South Sudan, in partnership with UNICEF and with funding from the European Union, officially handed over eight climate-resilient classrooms to the Ministry of Education in Wau on Friday. The newly constructed classrooms are distributed across three schools: two at Kosti Girls Primary School in Wau South, two at Janayen School, and four at Bilfam Primary School in Wau North.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mr. Charles Chol Mayar, Principal of Bilfam Primary School, expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the beneficiary schools. He acknowledged the significant impact the classrooms will have, particularly as students had previously been studying under trees.

The Regional Director of Help a Child called on school administrators, teachers, and members of the Parents’ Council to take full advantage of the new classrooms. He emphasized their role in shaping well-rounded students, aligning with the vision behind the classroom construction.

UNICEF Representative Mr. Bongi Kwon underscored the importance of safe and protective learning environments. He noted that the new classrooms will shield students from natural hazards such as rain and urged the community and Parents’ Council to help maintain the facilities.

Representing the Ministry of Education, Professor Gabriel Wilson Anthony confirmed the receipt of the eight classrooms and extended his appreciation to all supporting partners. He also assured the public that the Ministry will provide desks and other seating arrangements to enhance the learning experience.

This initiative is recognized as a significant educational investment, crucial not only for Wau but also for schools across South Sudan.
