As the Catholic Church marked one of its most significant feasts—the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord—faithful in Wau gathered in reverence and joy, reflecting on the resurrection and final earthly appearance of Jesus Christ.
Presiding over the Mass, Fr. Gabriel Kuol Akech, Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Wau, described the Ascension as “the greatest feast” in the Christian calendar, symbolizing Christ’s triumph and the continuation of His mission on earth.
Reflecting on Jesus’ suffering during the 40 days of Lent, Fr. Kuol Akech reminded the congregation that despite rejection and opposition from the leaders of His time, Jesus never stopped preaching the gospel.
Jesus Christ sent the Holy Spirit to His disciples to remind them of everything He had taught, so that the work of evangelization may continue.
He emphasized that the Lord did not abandon His followers, but instead empowered them to be His witnesses and carry the message of salvation to the world.
“The Lord gave us the strength and the Spirit to proclaim the Good News. We are His messengers today.”
Fr. Kuol reassured the faithful of Christ’s eternal presence, encouraging unity in faith and prayer.
The global Catholic Church observed the Feast of the Ascension last Sunday, rejoicing in the hope of receiving the grace of the Holy Spirit—a divine presence believed to guide and transform believers in their earthly journey.
