On Sunday, May 25, 2025, during the ordination of Fr. Chadrack Chol Majok, the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek officially launched its Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, aimed at promoting the proper development and protection of children within the Diocese.
Speaking during the launch, Fr. John Malou Beny, the Apostolic Delegate, praised Bishop Christian Carlassare for introducing what he described as an “amazing policy” dedicated to safeguarding children.
Fr. Malou urged all diocesan staff across departments to actively use the policy guide, referring to it as a “second Bible” for those working with children.
Fr. Harland emphasized the critical importance of this policy in the Church, highlighting its inclusive approach.
“We will carry out a series of trainings in the Eastern and Western Deaneries to educate people about this policy,” he said.
Bishop Christian Carlassare, Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek and Bishop of Bentiu, expressed his gratitude to the Child Protection and Safeguarding Desk team for their commitment in developing the document.
In his closing remarks, Bishop Carlassare noted the ongoing challenges faced by children due to the neglect of their rights, and he called on the public to uphold and respect children’s rights to ensure their proper upbringing.
