Residents in Wau South County are living in fear due to a spike in violence involving local youth gangs, commonly referred to as “neighborhood groups” or “Niggas.” The gangs are reportedly responsible for assaults, thefts, and threats across several neighborhoods.

“These young people are causing fear among citizens,” said a Kosti resident, speaking anonymously. “The violence is getting worse, and we no longer feel safe in our own homes.”

In Bazia Jadid, residents said the insecurity has affected livelihoods, as many are now too afraid to farm or conduct daily business.

“If this continues, it will destroy the future of the younger generation and the entire state,” said one woman.

Community members from affected areas, including Kosti, Bazia Jadid, Baqari Jadid, and Jebel Khail, are urging the government to restore security, dismantle violent groups, and establish local emergency response centers.

“We need a strong, clear plan from the government to eliminate these threats before more harm is done,” a resident emphasized.

Without urgent intervention, citizens warn that youth gang violence will further destabilize the area and erode public trust in government institutions.
