The newly appointed Executive Director of Tonj South County, Abraham Dot Deng, has raised serious concerns over rising insecurity in the county.

In an interview with Don Bosco Radio, he highlighted persistent cattle raids, targeted night assaults, and road ambushes that have shaken residents’ sense of safety.

Abraham appealed to community leaders, chiefs, and parents to advocate for peace as the rainy season begins, allowing farmers to focus on cultivation.
“Since my arrival in office, I’ve received numerous reports of cattle raids and killings. It’s heartbreaking to see such violence occurring within one community. We are from the same county—it’s senseless to fight ourselves.”

The situation remains tense, with multiple security incidents reported: On May 6, three fishermen were kidnapped on Aguka Payam road, and two people were injured in a cattle raid in Wunkec, Malualmuok Payam. On May 11, an unspecified number of calves were stolen, with the raiders still unidentified.

Urban insecurity has also increased, with residents reporting attempted house break-ins and the presence of armed youth moving in and out of town. Authorities say plans are underway to stabilize the situation with the imminent deployment of security forces.
