At least seven people were killed on Monday, April 14, 2025, in Tonj North County following a deadly clash between youths from Madhiath Payam and Pagakdit Payam, the Acting Commissioner of Tonj North, Daniel Makol Dhal, confirmed to Don Bosco Radio.

According to Commissioner Makol, the violence erupted after suspected youths from Pagakdit Payam raided cattle belonging to Madhiath Payam. During the initial attack, four people were killed on the spot, and one boy was wounded.

The attackers were reportedly moving past Warrap Town on their way back to their territory when three more people were killed—a police officer on patrol, a watchman working for Islamic Relief, and a young boy caught in crossfire.

Makol stated that the total death toll has risen to seven people from both communities.

He assured the public that calm has returned to Tonj North County and that local communities have resumed their daily activities. However, he issued a strong appeal to youth, urging them to refrain from acts of violence and criminal behavior, especially during this crucial pre-planting season.

“The ongoing hunger and disease affecting our people are already a challenge,” Makol said. “If conflicts continue, people won’t be able to cultivate their fields in the rainy season.”
Commissioner Makol made these remarks during a phone interview with Don Bosco Radio.
