The Youth Coordinators of the South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) are calling on young people across the country to become ambassadors of peace and unity amid the ongoing violence and political tensions.
Speaking to the press in Juba, Duar Gabriel Biel, the SSCC National Youth Coordinator, emphasized that all South Sudanese deserve to live in peace and prosperity and urged the youth to reject violence in all forms.
“We acknowledge and appreciate the ongoing efforts of our head of Churches’ involvement in promoting peaceful dialogue among our leaders to de-escalate political tensions and armed conflict in the country.”
The SSCC Youth leadership applauded the continued engagement of Church leaders in peacebuilding and dialogue among the nation’s political figures, describing their role as vital in restoring stability.
They further encouraged young people of faith to stay away from misinformation and hate speech, particularly on social media platforms, which they say are fueling divisions and mistrust.
“We call on youth of faith to distance themselves from the spread of false information that fuels tensions in our country. Let us use non-violent means to express our rights and concerns.”
In a joint message, the Christian youth reaffirmed their commitment to being part of the solution and urged South Sudanese leaders to prioritize peaceful dialogue for the sake of future generations.
“As youth of faith, we reaffirm our commitment to peace and harmony in our God-given country. We choose to be part of the solution rather than contributing to the problems,” the youth leaders declared.
