The government of Warrap State, alongside humanitarian agencies, has begun assessing the conditions of families displaced by recent violence in Abiemnhom County, Ruweng Administrative Area.

Over 2,000 individuals, mostly women and the elderly, have sought refuge in Kuajok and Twic counties in Warrap State.

Benjamin Anyar, the acting chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), spoke to Don Bosco Radio, stating that the displaced families are in urgent need of food, shelter, and medical assistance, as they arrived with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

“The condition of the displaced people is dire. They need urgent humanitarian assistance. The government is doing what it can to assist, but the needs are great, especially for the women and children who have been affected by the violence. We appeal to well-wishers and humanitarian organizations to help.”

The violence, which is alleged to have been sparked by an attack from armed youth in Mayom County, resulted in 29 deaths, 17 injuries, and the burning of 10 houses.

Many of the displaced have sought refuge in Kuajok, Twic, and Wau, with some still arriving from Abiemnhom. The situation continues to worsen, highlighting the need for immediate relief efforts.
