The Lopil Wi Kaka Youth Association, a Juba-based Acholi youth group, has distributed clothing to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Magwi County. The donation, made on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, primarily targeted women and children affected by recent violence in the area.

According to the team leader, the initiative was funded through personal contributions from youth, including university students in Juba, to support those who lost their homes during the cattle-related conflict in February.

“Our goal is to bring hope to the most affected—women and children—and to encourage them to return home and reintegrate ahead of the farming season,” said Dominic (only one name provided).

IDP representative Anna Laker Okech welcomed the donation, emphasizing the urgent need for additional support.

“Many people still shelter under trees at Magwi Freedom Square. Those returning home have nothing to start with,” she said. “We appeal to NGOs for assistance with non-food items such as tents, cooking utensils, and farming tools like hoes, pangas, and slashers to help in our reintegration.”

The conflict in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria, has been fueled by clashes between cattle herders—primarily from Dinka Bor—and farming communities. The violence has led to loss of lives, destruction of property, and mass displacement across villages, including Aru, Amee, Obama, Nyolo, Ayii, Jok Okii, Agoro, Chomboro, and Lowoi. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has since intensified efforts to restore peace in the region.
