Friday 21 03, 2025 Malakal: The Catholic Radio Network (CRN), with support from Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), has conducted its second training session on the role of radio in peacebuilding among communities divided by conflict in Upper Nile State.
More than 20 participants, including community leaders from different ethnic groups, members of the Council of Churches, youth representatives, women leaders, and state officials, took part in a one-day training held in Malakal.
The Very Rev. Fr. Stephen Ocir Oman Awin, Vicar General of Malakal Diocese, described radio as a gift from God that should be used for peace, human development, and justice.
“The Church recognizes the right to develop and use media, but not everything should be broadcast—only messages that promote peace, unity, and the Gospel.”
He also thanked partners for supporting faith-based organizations in their mission.
The State Minister of Information, Hon. James Bacha, acknowledged the vital role of Catholic media in peacebuilding, especially after the government radio station was destroyed.
“Church radio plays a big role in promoting peace. We always tune in to listen to Gospel songs and peace programs, which help unite communities.”
