The Catholic Radio Network (CRN), with support from Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA), has trained 20 community leaders, including women and civil authorities, on using radio as a tool for peacebuilding and democratization in Yambio, Western Equatoria State.

The training was officially opened by Hon. Anne Tuna Richard, the Acting State Minister of Information and Communications, who emphasized that peace is essential for development and that citizens need a stable environment to carry out their daily activities.

Hon. Tuna highlighted ongoing challenges in some parts of Western Equatoria State, particularly Greater Tombura, where conflicts have displaced citizens and led to loss of life. She also mentioned the displacement of people from Mundri East in Minga Payam, who are now seeking shelter in Rokon.

She commended the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio for supplementing government efforts in peacebuilding, community development, and delivering essential services that save lives.

Fr. Gbemboyo John, the CRN Director and facilitator of the one-day training stressed that peace is fundamental to societal progress. He noted that the training specifically targeted community leaders, women, and youth to strengthen grassroots peace initiatives.

“People must continue working for peace at all levels—individually, in communities, and across South Sudan—because our country has endured decades of conflict and violence,” Fr. Gbemboyo stated.

Representing the Bishop of Tombura-Yambio, Diocesan Chancellor Fr. Agbia Dominic Sasa reaffirmed the church’s commitment to supporting peace programs, acknowledging the struggles communities face due to instability.

The training was organized by the Catholic Radio Network and funded by Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA).
