The newly appointed Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology, and Postal Services, David Yau Yau, has called on staff members within the ministry and its affiliated institutions to embrace teamwork to achieve their collective mission.
Yau Yau made the remarks following an official tour of the ministry’s agencies, led by Minister Michael Makuei Lueth. The visit was aimed at familiarizing the deputy minister with the working environment and ongoing projects.
During the tour, the ministers inspected key parastatals, including the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), the National Communication Authority (NCA), the Media Authority, and the Universal Service and Access Fund. They also visited the data center construction site in Gumbo, a critical project aimed at strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.
As part of the visit, the Media Authority briefed the deputy minister on its role in regulating media operations and ensuring responsible journalism in South Sudan.
Meanwhile, Napoleon Adok, Director General of the National Communication Authority, outlined efforts to combat hate speech on social media platforms, particularly WhatsApp and TikTok, which he said have been used to spread inflammatory content. He noted that addressing online hate speech would help prevent the government from resorting to complete social media shutdowns during national crises.
The tour marks an important step in the ministry’s efforts to enhance collaboration and strengthen South Sudan’s information and communication landscape.
