The Chairperson of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Lakes State, Ms. Angelina Adhel Malual, has strongly condemned the brutal beating of a young girl in Cueicok, Rumbek Central County, by her brothers.
The attack, which occurred was reportedly due to her refusal to enter a forced marriage.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Adhel called on state authorities, especially the Rumbek Central County Commissioner, to take immediate action.
She insisted that the girl’s family must take full responsibility for her medical expenses and emphasized the role of CSOs in ensuring the victim received medical attention.
Adhel also urged Lakes State youth to treat their sisters with love and respect, warning that mistreating women today could have repercussions in the future.
According to the girl’s father, he was unaware of the attack as he had traveled to seek advice from an elder regarding her marriage. He revealed that his daughter had previously been married but left the husband for another man of her choice, angering her brothers, who retaliated with severe beatings.
Dr. Teran Madit Teran, Medical Director of Rumbek State Hospital, confirmed that the victim was admitted in critical condition, suffering from serious wounds and anemia. He noted that she would require surgery if a blood transfusion is successfully arranged.
The statements were made during an interview with Radio Good News at the State Hospital earlier today.
