A one-day high-level stakeholders’ meeting aimed at addressing cattle migration violence across the three states of Jonglei, Eastern and Central Equatoria, and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area has concluded with key resolutions intended to mitigate communal conflicts between farmers and cattle herders.

The resolutions include compensation for the destruction of crops and property in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria, particularly from the recent violence, and the recovery and return of over 7,000 cattle raided from Dinka Bor herders.

One of the meeting’s most pressing resolutions is to thoroughly investigate the Magwi incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. Stakeholders called on the government, peace partners, and community leaders to implement the resolutions and restore peace, security, and stability, especially in Magwi County, where violence recently occurred.

Additionally, a joint committee will be formed to implement the 2017 presidential order that mandates the evacuation of cattle from the Equatoria region back to Jonglei State.

During the meeting, Peter Wal Athou, Deputy Chairperson of the Bor Community, emphasized the community’s commitment to complying with the president’s order, stressing the importance of logistical support to ensure the smooth transportation of cattle back to their rightful regions.

The meeting did not specify a timeline for the cattle relocation.
