The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Augustino Jadalla Wani, has urged commissioners to bring forward fresh ideas to address the challenges posed by cattle herders during the ongoing Commissioners and Mayor’s Forum in Juba.
Governor Wani called on the commissioners to assess the situation in their respective counties and propose solutions, such as imposing taxes on cattle herders and disarming armed herders.
During the forum, which began on Monday, the governor emphasized that governance should focus on tangible impacts on people’s lives rather than just policies. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government, communities, and development partners to achieve effective service delivery.
“I want to call all of you, especially the commissioners, to deliberate on this issue. I expect ideas on how we can address the challenges posed by cattle herders, including allocating grazing land, imposing taxes, and disarming armed herders,” Governor Wani said.
He also reminded attendees of the resolutions from the 8th Governor’s Forum, which stressed the importance of streamlined governance and service delivery. The forum seeks to address issues such as county structure functionality, service delivery gaps, and the balance between revenue collection and expenditure responsibilities.
Governor Wani acknowledged the slow implementation of laws and policies, which he attributed to resource limitations, weak enforcement, and limited awareness. He urged commissioners to encourage grassroots engagement and dialogue, particularly with individuals who have taken up arms against the government.
