The Government of Eastern Equatoria State has donated 50 million South Sudanese pounds to provide essential food for the IDPs in Magwi County.
This donation follows the recent attacks by Dinka Bor cattle herders and Murle youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, which led to killings, harassment, looting, and widespread displacement.
Elia John Ahaji, the State Minister of Information and Communication, announced that in addition to the donation, the government will deduct one day’s salary from its employees to further support the affected communities.
The council also called for assistance from the public and neighboring counties to contribute both cash and non-food items.
“The Council of Ministers has decided to deduct one day’s salary from all government employees to support those affected, particularly in Agoro Chomboro and Ayii.
The government of Eastern Equatoria will immediately donate 50 million South Sudanese pounds to purchase emergency food supplies.
We appeal to the people of Eastern Equatoria, including all eight counties, town councils, and municipalities, to contribute both cash and non-food items. We also call upon the national government to investigate these brutal attacks and hold the perpetrators accountable.”
