Delegates from the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) congratulated Rev. Fr. Martine Ochaya Lino upon his appointment as Secretary General of the Sudan and South Sudan Bishops’ Conference. AMECEA emphasized the importance of collaboration within the region.
At the farewell of outgoing Secretary General Fr. Peter Suleiman, Fr. Paul Munga’thia Igweta, Coordinator for Promoting Integral Human Development (PIHD), thanked Fr. Suleiman for his service and emphasized the need for the new Secretary General to remain clear-headed and consult widely.
“Fr. Martin, you must always be smart and clear in your decisions, as you are the face of the Church in this region,” Fr. Igweta stated.
Fr. Igweta also highlighted the need for Fr. Ochaya to be present at the airport during AMECEA visits to South Sudan, recalling how Fr. Suleiman’s presence had made a significant difference in ensuring smooth arrivals for AMECEA members.
Fr. Martine Ochaya pledged to work with the staff and partners of the Bishops’ Conference to promote professionalism and unity. He also expressed gratitude for the smooth transition, promising to respect and cooperate with the staff and seek advice when necessary.
