The Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in Western Bahr El Ghazal, Hon. Barsham Ayaka, confirmed on Tuesday that hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Tombura, Western Equatoria State, have arrived in Wau, seeking safety from the ongoing conflict in their home areas.

The displaced persons are primarily from Nagiro, Tombura, and Boo, regions along the border between Western Equatoria and Western Bahr El Ghazal. Ayaka highlighted that many have fled due to gunfire and violence, and they are now under the protection of the government in Wau.

“We have not yet initiated the official registration process to determine the exact number of IDPs,” Ayaka explained. “But humanitarian organizations are urgently needed to support these people with food, water, shelter, and other essential items.”

Ayaka called on well-wishers and NGOs to intervene and assist the IDPs, as many arrived with nothing but their lives. He stressed the urgency of intervention, as the situation could worsen without prompt aid.

Speaking to Voice of Hope Radio, Ayaka explained that the violence stemmed from a misunderstanding between the SSPDF and SSPLM-IO forces. As a result, many civilians fled, seeking safety. He reassured the public that the government is addressing the situation and hopes for peace to prevail soon.
