The Ugandan government has unveiled plans to provide road construction machinery to Eastern Equatoria to facilitate road rehabilitation for smoother transportation of goods and passengers, across South Sudana-Uganda border points.
Ochala James, Speaker of Lamuo District, called on the government of Eastern Equatoria to prioritize the construction of key infrastructure, such as the Atepi Bridge and the road linking Limu to South Sudan.
He emphasized that these projects would boost trade and connectivity along the border.
“Governor, the Atepi bridge is in urgent need of repair. We urge you to collaborate with us on rebuilding it so that we can enhance market activities between our two countries. We are ready to provide the machinery for the work, but we ask that you supply the necessary fuel for the machines.”
Governor Louis Lobong Lojore of Eastern Equatoria affirmed that the South Sudan government has policies in place to ensure peaceful coexistence along the borders and highlighted the long-standing partnership with Uganda, especially during the liberation struggle.“Our government has always prioritized peaceful relations with our neighbors, particularly Uganda, who stood with us during our liberation. We encourage continued cultural exchange and interaction between our communities on both sides of the border.”
The comments were made during a Sunday gathering at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Torit.
