The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, H.E. Louis Lobong Lojore, has called for greater integration and cooperation among communities living along the borders of South Sudan and Uganda, aiming to foster peaceful coexistence and drive economic growth.

Governor Lobong made these remarks on Sunday, January 26, 2025, during a Mass at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Parish in the Catholic Diocese of Torit. The Mass coincided with a visit from Christ the King Catholic Parish Kitgum under the Archdiocese of Gulu- Uganda. The delegation’s visit was part of a faith mission in South Sudan, centered on the theme: Peace for All.

In his address, Governor Lobong highlighted the importance of the church’s mission, noting that it aligns with the broader goals of integrating communities in East Africa—a vision championed by political leaders since the 1960s. He pointed to the launch of cultural festivals in Uganda in 2024 as a positive step in realizing these integration policies.

“Trade, cultural events, and sports can serve as bridges of unity between our communities,” Governor Lobong said. “These activities will not only foster stronger ties but also spur economic development across the region, benefiting both South Sudan and Uganda.”

The governor also emphasized that these initiatives align with the government of South Sudan’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and cooperation with neighboring countries.

“In line with our government’s policies, we are committed to maintaining peace and enhancing interaction with our neighbors,” he added. “I urge all county commissioners to continue working closely with their counterparts across the border. The boundaries established by colonial powers are just lines on a map; they should not prevent us from visiting, engaging, or living as one people.”

Governor Lobong’s call for unity and collaboration underscores the importance of fostering regional cooperation in both the social and economic spheres and reflects a shared vision of peace and prosperity for the people of South Sudan and Uganda.
