President Salva Kiir Mayardit has expressed deep distress and sorrow over the recent killings of innocent South Sudanese civilians by Sudanese armed forces.

The President’s office has condemned the violence, which targeted South Sudanese citizens in Sudan, many of whom still consider the country their home due to historical ties and ongoing connections between the two nations.

The government has emphasized that South Sudanese citizens trapped in Sudan’s war zones are entitled to protection under the Geneva Convention and that all parties involved in the conflict are obligated to uphold international law and safeguard civilians.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already taken swift action in response, summoning the Sudanese Ambassador to Juba for diplomatic consultations. The government is working diligently to ensure that those responsible for the killings are held accountable under international law.

However, the government has also called for calm within South Sudan. Authorities are urging citizens to refrain from retaliatory actions and violence, particularly against Sudanese traders and refugees currently residing in South Sudan. The government stresses that these individuals are seeking safety and protection, and it is our duty to offer them shelter, not hostility.

The government is calling for restraint, encouraging all citizens to allow diplomacy and dialogue between South Sudan and Sudan to resolve the crisis.

President Kiir’s office has urged the people of South Sudan to remain united and not allow anger to lead to further escalation.

On Thursday, gunfire erupted across Juba as youth protested the alleged killing of civilians by the Sudanese Armed Forces in Wad Madani forcing the Sudanese traders to close their shops.
