Torit State Hospital registered 14 new births during the Christmas holiday, according to Mrs. Abalo Evaline, a registered midwife at the facility. She reported that seven babies were delivered on Christmas Day, while the day before, Christmas Eve, saw another seven births.
“On December 25th, we recorded seven deliveries, including three girls and four boys. On the 24th, we had seven births as well—four girls and three boys.
There were no complications during the deliveries. However, one mother delivered at home due to transportation challenges,” Mrs. Evaline shared.
The midwife advised pregnant women to avoid home births, citing potential complications such as excessive bleeding that could endanger both mother and child.
“It is not advisable for women to deliver at home, as there can be complications. Early antenatal care is essential for successful delivery and to avoid risks,” Mrs. Evaline emphasized.
She also noted that only three of the 14 women who gave birth were accompanied by their husbands to the hospital, encouraging more men to take an active role in their wives’ healthcare during pregnancy.
“Of the 14 women who delivered at the hospital, only three were escorted by their husbands,” she said. “I urge men to accompany their wives for antenatal care to ensure a safer and healthier pregnancy.”
