South Sudan’s First Vice President, H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, met with the United States Ambassador to South Sudan, H.E. Michael J. Adler, on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

Their discussions centered on mutual concerns, including the outcomes of the recently concluded 8th Governors’ Forum, the implementation of the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement, and the ongoing Tumaini Initiative peace talks in Nairobi, Kenya. 

The meeting also touched on the need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

After the meeting, Ambassador Adler reiterated the United States’ commitment to prioritizing peace in South Sudan.

“The United States encourages all South Sudanese stakeholders, both signatory and non-signatory to the peace agreement, to fully engage in the Nairobi talks. Sustainable peace is essential for South Sudan’s future.”
