The Bishops’ from Sudan and South Sudan have assembled for Eight (8) Days Plenary annual meeting of Bishops’ at the Archdiocese of Juba.
Speaking during the official opening of the plenary on Friday at good Shephard Peace Center in Kit, the president of Sudan and South Sudan Bishops’ Conference His Eminence Stephen Cardinal Ameyu Martin describes the assembly as an opportunity for the Frist Resident Apostolic Nuncio to meet all the Bishops’ from the two Countries.
Cardinal Ameyu commends Bishops’ efforts in their Dioceses, citing that their unwavering service amidst war and challenges reflects the profound love of Christ for his people.
“The Churches presence in South Sudan and Sudan is always the beacon of hope and the effort made by each Bishop, priests in your respective Dioceses or Institutions are deeply appreciated. Your unwavering service especially in the face of war and challenges reflects the profound love of Christ for his people.”
Ameyu calls on Bishops’ to always take their duties as true pastors to teach the faith and guide their communities.
“As heighted in the teaching of the Church, the duty of Bishops’ and priests is authentically to teach the faith and guide their communities as true pastors. This commitment is vital for fostering a vibrant and resilient Church.”

Mulla highlights the importance of establishment of coordinating agencies for Humanitarian in Sudan and South Sudan to assist the vulnerable people who are suffering due to conflicts.
“As we come together in this Conference, may the burns of communion among us strengthen our collective mission, the establishment of coordinating agencies especially for humanitarian assistance in both Sudan and South Sudan suggest that it’s important for us always to assist our people especially in this humanitarian catastrophe that we have in both Countries.”
He appeals to the Bishops’ to remain in solidarity and work for peace and the dignity of the persons they serve.
“Let us remain in solidarity, let us work for peace, let us work for the dignity of the persons we serve, let us pray always for that commitment that the Lord continue to give us. May this conference be a fruitful time for reflection, collaboration and to renew the zeal of the work ahead.”
Cardinal continue, “In this challenging times, your effort to foster peace, reconciliations and solidarity among the faithful is vital.”
He adds that the engagements bishops’ in addressing the needs of the refugees and Internal Displaced Persons contribute significantly to the wellbeing of the entire people of Sudan and South Sudan.
“Your engagement in dialogue and cooperation particularly in addressing the needs of the Refugees, Internal Displaced persons, marginalize poor contribute significantly to the wellbeing of the entire people of Sudan and South Sudan. The collaborative initiative you undertake not only enhance the Churches visibility, but also strengthens the Unity of which Christ prayed for.”
The Bishops’ plenary which began on November 12 with spiritual retreat will conclude on November 19, 2021, followed with the final celebration of golden Jubilee and 40 years of the Eucharistic congress on date 24 November 2024.
