Juba, South Sudan – The Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) has moved the proposed 2024/25 national budget bill to its third reading. Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jama Nunu Kumba, announced the progression following the presentation of three critical reports by the chairperson of the Standing Specialized Committee on Transitional National Legislature Clusters for the budget.
“Honorable Members of the August House, we have now passed the national budget bill for the 2024/2025 fiscal year to the third reading,” Speaker Kumba stated, acknowledging the reports that provided detailed assessments and recommendations. The members unanimously supported the decision, advancing the bill for further discussion and finalization.
The third reading will be scheduled soon, with members of Parliament to be notified in advance. This year’s budget emphasizes essential sectors, prioritizing education, agriculture, health, security, infrastructure, and civil servants’ wages.
The Cabinet initially approved the budget on August 2, 2024, proposing a total expenditure of SSP 4.172 trillion, supported by a resource envelope of SSP 2.258 trillion. Expected revenue from oil is projected at SSP 1.138 trillion, with additional funds anticipated from non-oil sources. The budget reflects South Sudan’s commitment to addressing socio-economic needs and strengthening its public services amidst economic challenges.
