The Central Equatoria State Civil Society Network launched a one-day workshop on November 5, 2024, in Juba, aimed at community sensitization and awareness under the theme, “Building Stronger Communities through Civic Participation Toward a More Democratic Society.”

The workshop addressed civic education on election processes, constitutional development, and national identification.

Deputy Governor H.E. Poulino Lokdu inaugurated the event, attended by top state officials and Ms. Nyoki Rihab, CES Field Officer for UNMISS.

Deputy Governor Lokdu emphasized the role of civic education in fostering peace, stability, and equality in Central Equatoria and called on all county commissioners to support civil society organizations in raising awareness across the state.

“This initiative aligns with our constitutional rights, especially regarding civic engagement and political participation,“ said Lokdu, noting that the extended transitional period offers a timely window for impactful civic education.

Chairperson of the Civil Society Network, Shamila Khaltuma, announced that the project would immediately begin civic education activities focused on elections and constitutional awareness, underscoring its importance as South Sudan’s first dedicated electoral education initiative.
