Stephen Cardinal Ameyu Martin Mulla, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Juba in South Sudan, expressed in an interview with Vatican News that synodality and dialogue, inspired by the Holy Spirit, are crucial to addressing social challenges in South Sudan and Sudan.

Cardinal Ameyu emphasized that a spirit of unity and open communication can help overcome the fractured relationships that underlie many societal problems.

“A lack of strong relationships often fuels the issues we face in families and communities,” Cardinal Ameyu remarked, stressing that through a spirit-led dialogue and mutual listening, peaceful solutions can emerge.

He highlighted how other African cardinals, currently gathered in Rome for the Synod, are also advocating for the role of the Holy Spirit in guiding both the Church and society.

Together, they recognize that when people open their hearts and listen to the Spirit, society can embark on a collective journey toward peace and understanding.

In closing, Cardinal Ameyu reiterated his belief that true listening, inspired by the Spirit, allows for societal transformation, fostering harmony and collaboration across communities.
