In a heartwarming gesture, a local farmer in Yambio, Western Equatoria State, has donated 12 Maugon seeds to the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-YambioBarani Edwardo Hiboro Kussala
In an exclusive interview, Mr. Anthony Zeit Martin, the generous farmer, explained his motivation behind the donation.
“Investing in tree plantation is part of my effort to combat deforestation in Western Equatoria State. Tree plantation is crucial for restoring natural habitats, reducing carbon footprints, and promoting biodiversity in our state,” he said.
Mr. Martin emphasized the broader benefits of his initiative, stating, “The initiative also serves as a sustainable source of income for local communities and contributes to environmental conservation efforts.”
He added, “As a local farmer, this is my first product, and I have decided to give it to a man of God. Our ancestors taught us that when you plant something, the first yield should be given to the elders.”
Bishop Barani Edwardo Hiboro Kussala expressed his gratitude and highlighted the importance of such initiatives.
“Planting trees is vital for the Azande Kingdom and South Sudan. Trees help produce medicine, build houses, bring rain, and care for our environment for agriculture. I encourage all local farmers and communities to plant these seeds,” he advised.
The bishop blessed Mr. Martin and promised to lead by example in planting the donated trees. He also vowed to encourage other local farmers in South Sudan and Western Equatoria State to follow suit.
