Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio Announces Passing of St. Bakhita Parish Priest

The Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Father Charles Tombe, who passed away on September 23, 2024, at St. Theresa Nzara Hospital, Western Equatoria State, after a brief illness.

According to Fr. Wasi Benjamin, the body of Fr. Tombe has been taken to St. Josephine Bakhita Catholic Parish, Yabongo. Further arrangements regarding his burial will be announced by the diocese.

While reading his biography, Fr. Wasi Benjamin shared that the late Fr. Charles Tombe was born in Juba on November 27, 1983. He was ordained as a priest on October 8, 2017, and served in various ministries within the diocese. His roles included:

  • Parish Priest of St. Charles Lwanga (2018-2020)
  • Priest in Charge of Apostolic Groups (2020-2024)
  • Rector of St. John Paul II Institute of Philosophy (2021)
  • Parish Priest of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, Yabongo (2021-2024)
  • Episcopal Vicar for Central Deanery (2021-2024)
  • Member of the St. Gregory VII Mastermind Team (2024)

Fr. Wasi reminded the faithful with the words of 2 Timothy 4:7 as they mourned Fr. Tombe: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

May Fr. Tombe’s soul rest in eternal peace and may his legacy of faith and compassion continue to inspire those who knew him.
