The South Sudan Women Coalition expressed frustration over the proposed extension of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) during the third extraordinary R-JMEC meeting held on Wednesday 19 septeber 2024 in  Juba.

Eva Christo, representing the Women Coalition, voiced disappointment at the failure of the parties to fulfill their commitments, stating that the constant delays have left the people of South Sudan disillusioned.

“Since 2005, South Sudan has been in transition, and this cycle of extensions continues. The people of South Sudan have been denied their constitutional right to elect their leaders. What will be done differently this time to ensure the suffering of our citizens ends?” Eva asked.

She emphasized that while the coalition might support this latest extension, it should be the final one. “The question is not about extending the timeline but about real change and commitment to the peace process,” she added.

“We need to see measures in place for transparency and accountability. The parties should not merely come together to extend their stay in power. We, the South Sudan Women Coalition, will continue to support peace and monitor progress closely,” Eva concluded.
