The 3rd National Conference on Protection of Children against Recruitment and Use in South Sudan is underway in Juba under the Theme: “Children Not Soldiers”
The conference organized by the National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Committee brought together 150 participants and partners, drawn at national and state levels, and representatives from relevant line ministries.
The conference aims at enhancing the capacity of the participants to recognize, prevent, and respond to recruitment and use of children promptly.Increase knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders in the implementation of the comprehensive Action Plan.
According to the NDDRC ChairpersonHon. Gen. Ayuen Alier Jongroor the national conference is dedicated to addressing the recruitment and use of children in situations of armed conflict in South Sudan.

A peaceful and secure environment where all children can grow, learn, and contribute to the nation’s future.” He added.
UNICEF Rep Ms. Hamida Laseko said she is worried that there would be a high risk of children recruitment into the army amid the ongoing economic crisis in South Sudan.
The conference was officially opened by the Vice President, Chair for Youth and Gender Cluster H.E. Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabior.
The three-day conference started on Tuesday 17- September 2024 and is expected to end on Thursday 19th September 2024.
