Ex-Juba City Mayor Kalisto released

The former Mayor of Juba City Council Kalisto Ladu has been released after spending nearly 6 months in detention at the National Security Service (SSNSS)

Lado’s lawyer, Wani Santino Lado, confirmed his release, marking the end of a prolonged and controversial period in the NSS custody.

The former mayor was arrested on the 30th of March 2024 from his house in Juba.

His arrest sparked controversy and condemnation from human rights organizations, including Amnesty International labeled it as arbitrary.

His detention drew widespread criticism from lawmakers, civil society, and international bodies such as the U.S. Embassy

Kalisto’s controversial arrest which triggered public debate and the voices of the whistleblowers as well as the voices of religious groups has finally come to pass.

However, the lawyer did not detail more information about his release.

Recently, the vice president of the economic cluster Dr. James Wani Igga early this Month said Kalisto was arrested by the government and put under detention.
