The vibrant community of the Sacred Heart Parish in Tonj came alive on Saturday as the Salesians of Don Bosco and parishioners gathered to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sister Florancyia’s missionary service.
The event was a significant milestone, not just for Sister Florancyia but also for the entire Don Bosco family, who have witnessed her unwavering dedication to the community over the years.
Sister Florancyia, a member of the Mary Help of Christians Missionary Sisters congregation, has devoted the last 25 years to her missionary vocation, providing spiritual guidance, education, and humanitarian support to the people of Tonj.
The celebration, marked by vibrant singing, dancing, and heartfelt prayers, was a testament to the deep love and respect the community holds for her.
The day began with a solemn mass at Sacred Heart Parish, where hundreds of congregants, including choirs, dancers, the Legion of Mary, and local church councils, gathered to honor Sister Florancyia. The atmosphere was filled with joy as the community reflected on her immense contributions over the years.
During the celebration, Sister Keran, a fellow missionary and close friend of Sister Florancyia, took to the podium to express her gratitude. “Sister Florancyia has been a beacon of hope and love in this community.
Her impact on the lives of so many people here cannot be overstated. We pray for her continued success and strength as she moves forward in her vocation,” Sister Keran said, her voice filled with emotion.
Sister Florancyia, visibly moved by the outpouring of love and support, took a moment to address the congregation.
“Today is a day of rejoicing and thanksgiving for the wonders God has done in my life and in the lives of those I have been privileged to serve. I am deeply grateful for the love and support I’ve received from this community over the years,” she said, her words met with applause.
She went on to reflect on her journey, describing the challenges and rewards of her missionary work.
“Serving in South Sudan has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. This country, with all its beauty and complexities, has become my home, and I am committed to continuing my work here,” she added.
Sister Florancyia also took the opportunity to thank the Salesians of Don Bosco, her fellow missionaries, and the entire Tonj community for their unwavering support.
“This celebration is not just about me; it’s about all of us who have worked together to build a stronger, more compassionate community. I look forward to many more years of service,” she concluded.
The celebration continued with a communal feast, where parishioners shared stories and memories of Sister Florancyia’s time in Tonj.
The event was a beautiful reminder of the power of faith, community, and dedication in making a lasting impact on the lives of others.
