The Atepi bridge connecting South Sudan and Uganda collapsed as a result of the heavy downpours last month

Heavy downpours have made movement across border points impossible after a bridge connecting South Sudan to Uganda through Owiny Kibul has been washed away in Magwi County

Oyet Joseph the Owiny-ki-bul Payam chief stated that the destruction of the Atepi Bridge has blocked students from digging across the stream and community members seeking health services on the other side of Atepi

“It started raining day before yesterday evening at around 4PM throughout the night till 10 O’clock in the morning and I got a report that Atepi bridge was destroyed and I went and confirmed it and now there is no crossing for residents on this side and that side, it cut off students who went for digging to Angom Boma over the weekend and people who were coming to health services at the facility. The water pushed the bridge and aligned it in Atepi”

Oyet however calls for government intervention as community members cannot handle the situation

He urges the local community to construct local boards to cross the stream for the meantime

“There is nothing the community will do to cross the stream, in the past those living under Ayiba hill, Bongolo and that side they used to cross the stream when the water level reduced or when tall dry trees fell and cross over the water that will be an alternative but now days all the tall dry trees are drawn by water so there is no more mean for the community to cross Atepi accept they make some local boards to cross”

Last week the government in Eastern Equatoria State announced to the Community across the state to be alert of flooding
