The first resident Apostolic Nuncio to South Sudan has on 25 July wrote a letter to Bishops’ and the faithful in South Sudan to pray for him during his consecration scheduled to take place today 27 July 2023.
“I shall be consecrated Bishop on Saturday, July 27, and would very much appreciate your prayerful accompaniment on that day” the apostolic Nuncio Seamus Horgan said in his letter.
Bishop Horgan promised to pray for the Churches in South Sudan during his ordination as he prepare to come to South Sudan and take his seat as the apostolic Nuncio.
“I shall have the Church in South Sudan in my prayers on that day and indeed during those weeks as I prepare to travel to Juba. I look forward very much to beginning my work among you in August.”
He stated that the presence diplomatic Sea will reinforce the bonds of fraternity and love between the local Churches of South Sudan and the Universal Church.
“I pray the presence of a resident Apostolic Nuncio will make more immediate the closeness of Pope Francis and will reinforce the bonds of fraternity and love between the local churches of South Sudan and the Universal Church.”
Nuncio Seamus shows his readiness to build on and gather the fruits of the apostolic visit of Pope Francis in 2023 and of his various initiative in favour of peace.
He thanked his predecessors Charge’ de’ Affair for establishing solid presence for Holy See in South Sudan.
“I know I shall be building on the good work of my predecessors as Nuncio and of Charges who have done so much to establish a solid presence for the Holy See in South Sudan.”
In May 14 2024, the Holy Father Pope Francis appointed First-ever Resident Apostolic Nuncio to South Sudan and elevated him to the dignity of Archbishop, assigning him the Titular See of Árd Sratha in Ireland.
The ordination Rite of the Nuncio presided by Cardinal Pietro Parolin and the apostolic Nuncio is expected to be in Juba in early August 2024.
