The Union of Journalists and the Association for Media Development in South Sudan have praised the security organ for lifting the closure of Al-Watan Newspaper Company.

In a separate press statements, the Union of Journalists of South Sudan the reopening of the AL-Watan newspaper has put a smile on the face of media outlets across the County.

“UJOSS thanks all stakeholders such as the media Authority and the National Security Service Public Relations department for the collaborative work that led to the opening of the News Paper.”

The Association for Media Development in South Sudan also expressed happiness for the reopening of the newspapers.

AMDISS stated that the reopening of the paper is a sign that the government acknowledges the importance of the media in South Sudan.

“For eight months the readers of Al Watan have been in total darkness due to a lack of information following the showdown of their favorite newspaper. Today, we are relieved after receiving the good news that Al Watan has been given the green light to resume its publication.” AMDISS said.

The Newspaper was closed on 24 November 2023 after the newspaper published a letter of condolence about the Israel-Hamas conflict.
