Western Bahr el Ghazal State commemorated the 13th Anniversary of South Sudan Independence Day annually on July 9 with calls for loyalty, peace, and unity among the citizens.

The day reflected the achievement of South Sudanese during the liberation struggle remembering the heroes and Heroines who sacrificed their lives to liberate the people from Arab domination.

South Sudan People Deference Forces (SSPDF)’s Division Five Commander Gen. Dau Atur-Jong narrated the great work of SPLA since 1983. He says the motives for taking arms were to liberate South Sudan and make the people.

Gen. Dau calls for loyalty, unity, peace, development and prosperity in South Sudan to reward those who died during the struggle.

He urges the youth to advocate for peace to advance the unity and development of South Sudan.

Deputy Governor of WBG Hon. Zachariah Joseph Garang those who contribute to achieving the independence of South Sudan.

Governor Sarah Cleto Rial acknowledges the sacrifices made by the heroes and heroines who lost their lives for the people of South Sudan to get freedom.

‘‘As we celebrate this millstone anniversary, let us remember the sacrifice of those who came before us, those who gave achievement for the cost of our freedom, those who gave all the resources, and those who gave their life, our struggles for self-determination was long and we sacrifice a lot but we gain our independent” she narrates.

In the meantime during the celebration, some of the citizens urge the government to continue providing security so that they can embark on agriculture unstoppably.

At the same time, the citizens also hope for a free and fair election by the government in December 2024.

Hundreds of Wau residents including students organized forces and the state government turned up at Wau Stadium to show their love for the country.
