President Kiir heads to Angola after visited DR Congo

The President of South Sudan; Salva Kiir Mayardit traveled to the Angolan capital, Luanda, on Monday 25th March for regional peace talks just a day after visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo to discuss peace and stability in the Great Lakes Region.

According to reports, President Kiir is expected to hold talks with his Angolan counterpart President João Manuel Lourenço on issues facing the Great Lakes Region.

This came as part of President Kiir’s regional peace tour in his capacity as the Chairman of the East African Community to discuss with the regional leaders how to calm escalating tensions within the region.

The East African leader was in DR. Congo and discussed peace and stability in the Great Lakes region, particularly in Eastern DRC with his Congolese counterpart Felix Tshisekedi.
The two leaders called for urgent adherence to the Nairobi and Luanda peace processes, initiated by the EAC and AU, respectively, to restore peace and stability in the region.
