The Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Verification Mechanism (CTSMVM) said it is disappointed with the lack of progress on deploying the National Unified Forces (NUF).

The chairperson of the organisation, General Hailu Gonfa said there have not been any developments as far as deployment of the Unified Forces is concerned.

General Hailu noted that the phase graduates, who include forces of National Security,

police, civil defense, and prison services are yet to be deployed and there is no indication to show when the phase 2 forces will be trained and deployed.

The CTSMVM boss said the timely formation of the NUF is a prerequisite for the upcoming elections in the country.

Out of the 83,000-strong NUF, only 6% of the forces have been deployed according to General Hailu.

Hailu acknowledged the effort by the parties to the peace agreement to respect the ceasefire; he said his organization had not registered any violations in the past months.

He, however, admitted having recorded one violation in Gondokoro which he terms as “an indiscipline case”

He calls for senior officers in the army to be held accountable for the incident that happened in Gondokoro Boma of Juba County.
