The Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Forestry in the state of Western Bahr el Ghazal appealed to livestock and farmers located within the municipality of Wau to respect the provisions of the Marial Bai Agreement.

The agreement detailed livestock and cow migration in the area. Vlantino Akic Akwar said the goal of the Marial Bai Agreement is to protect the property of shepherds and farmers.

He asked the cattle keepers to respect the provisions of the Marial Bai Agreement, especially during the migration and agricultural season.

Akic Akwar urges the cattle keepers to ensure the safety of the farms and crops before transferring the cows and livestock to avoid the problems that might occur between the cattle keepers and farmers.

He said his ministry will follow up and ensure that the Marial Bai Agreement has been implemented, and he encouraged the partners and supporters of the agreement to work voluntarily on the agreement before planting season.

Minister Vlantino Akic Akwar encouraged communities in Wau to follow and implement the Marial Bai Agreement and respect the opinions of others.

The Marial Bai Agreement was signed in 2016 between communities from Warrap State and Western Bahr el Ghazal State to control the movement of livestock and farmers.

In the Cattle Keepers and Farmers Conference 2022 to review the Marial Bai Agreement, the community of Wau County said that they are not part of the Marial Bay Agreement.

Last month, the chief of Bussere Payam of Wau County in the state of Western Bahr al-Ghazal asked the state government to remove the owners of livestock or cows with their livestock from the payam before the agricultural season to allow the process of agriculture for the residents of the region to take place.
