The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in South Sudan has denied claims of the UN Panel of Experts report alleging the country of supplying to Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan.
In a statement released on Monday, Foreign Affairs said, the UN report claims that trucks carrying fuel move from the capital, Juba, to Wau weekly is not true.
The UN report stated that once the fuel reached Wau, the fuel was transported in civilian cars, such as Land Cruisers, to Raja, and subsequently to RSF-controlled areas in South Darfur, through Kafia-Kingi which the government denied.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said it firmly rejects these unfounded allegations against South Sudan.
It said South Sudan has maintained a position of neutrality and has kept its borders open since the conflict erupted in the Sudan.
“It is important to note that since the eruption of conflict in the sisterly Republic of Sudan on April 15th, 2023, the Government of the Republic of South Sudan has maintained a position of neutrality and has kept its borders open. Our commitment to peace and stability in the region remains unwavering.”
His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has consistently called upon the Sudanese parties to observe a ceasefire and create a conducive atmosphere for the cessation of hostilities, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains.”
The ministry stressed that such allegations do not contribute to problem-solving, but rather jeopardize the peace efforts
“We caution against the detrimental effects of baseless allegations, such as those raised by the UN Panel of Experts such allegations do not contribute to problem-solving, but rather jeopardize the peace efforts that the Government of the Republic of South Sudan has undertaken to ensure a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Sudan.”
The Foreign Affairs emphasizes that the Government of South Sudan remains vigilant in ensuring that peace prevails in the neighboring Sudan.
The ministry urges all stakeholders to exercise caution and rely on verified information when assessing the situation.
Foreign Affairs narrated that the Government reaffirms its commitment to peace and stability in the region and remains committed to working collaboratively with international partners to achieve these shared objectives.
South Sudan expressed its readiness to barked regional efforts, including mediation and providing support to alleviate the suffering of Sudanese refugees who have fled the conflict.
