CEPO calls on judiciary to expedite case of former Commissioner of Magwi

The Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization has called on judiciary to move quickly on legal procedures in case involving former commissioner of Magwi County.

This call came after the County Commissioner of Magwi County David Otto Remson has been in the prison since 14th December Last year without any legal proceedings.

The Executive Director of CEPO; Edmond Yakani said, that David has the right to fair trail, and has the right to be presented before court of law within the period of 24 hours as required by the law of South Sudan.

“The case of David should be brought to the attention of a legal actions, and David has the right for fair trail, and also David has the right to be presented before court within the period of 24 hours has required by our laws.”

Yakani added that, the former commissioner has the right to be bailed out from the prison until he is proven guilty by the law.

“Also David has the right to be bailed from the prison until he is prove guilty by the law, and then faced the course of the law or if he is innocent, then he is released.”

According to the Executive Director of ECPO, the former County Commissioner of Magwi was arrested due to case opened against him on the issue of two business men of bamboo who were killed in Agor payam , Magwi County.

He stated that the former Commissioner David reported himself to the police on the 14th of December 2023, up to now he is in Juba prison without facing any legal proceedings.

“David took a personal responsibility of respecting the rule of law, report himself to the police, in order to face due legal process in regard to the allegation against him with the death of the two business men.”

“David reported himself to the police on fourteen December 2023. As we speak now he is in Juba prison without facing any legal proceedings and that is why we are concern and we are bringing to attention of the Ministry of Justice and Judiciary.”

Yakani urges the Ministry of Justice, Judiciary and political leadership to protect the right of David as an accused person.

“I would like to take this opportunity to urge the Ministry of Justice and Judiciary and political leadership of the country, there is a need to protect the rights of David as he is been an accused or a person in conflict with the law.”

The Executive Director of CEPO made this statement in Juba.
